The Government have today announced that children's rights to maintain contact with both parents following separation or divorce are to be strengthened. Under the plans, family courts in England and Wales must assume the child's welfare is best served by remaining involved with both parents. But ministers say parents will not have a right to equal time with children.

During my years in practice as a Conveyancing Executive in residential property, I am surprised to learn of the unfortunate issues encountered by sellers due to external additions to their property which encroach their neighbours’ land. More surprisingly, the neighbours who are affected by such matters appear to have no indication or knowledge that there has been a legal wrong-doing committed on their land!

Whitehead Monckton Solicitors from Maidstone rowed and cycled the length of the River Medway to raise money for their Charity of the Year, children’s hospice chYps. Over the course of the day members of staff took it in turns to row and cycle on and exercise bike and rowing machine with the support of shoppers at Fremlin Walk.

Debique v Ministry of Defence – claimant’s award reduced due to failure to mitigate losses

Although initially sympathetic to her childcare needs, the Army lost patience with Miss Debique after a number of incidents, including an occasion where she failed to attend a parade. The Army subsequently informed Miss Debique that if she could not rearrange her childcare so that she could be available 24/7, that she would be sacked for gross misconduct. Following a formal warning, Miss Debique resigned alleging she feared she would be sacked in any event. She went on to claim that the requirement to be available 24/7 amounted to indirect sex discrimination. Miss Debique also claimed that she had been indirectly racially discriminated against because the immigration rules prevented her from inviting relatives to come to the United Kingdom to help with childcare. These claims were successful both at the original tribunal and at the Employment Appeal Tribunal. As the parties were unable to agree a figure for compensation, the matter went to a remedies hearing.
